EWEB's Hometown Heroes Compete Internationally

Three man rodeo team at the competition

Last week, four EWEB line techs embarked on a career achievement adventure: competing and participating in the International Lineman Rodeo in Kansas City, MO.

Torin Brick, Phillip Henneman, and Evan McGill represented EWEB as a three-man journeyman team. According to regulations, each team is required to bring a volunteer judge. EWEB sent Justin Fitzgerald, who judged the apprentice competitions.

EWEB's three-man team qualified for the international stage after placing 2nd overall at the Pacific Northwest Lineman Rodeo in July.

In between regular work duties, the team has spent extra time practicing their skills in EWEB's training yard. The goal is to work seamlessly as a team, moving as fast and safely as possible. And that's precisely what they are judged on: how fast they can move and with the fewest deductions.

At the international competition, 290 teams from 14 different countries competed in four events, including two mystery events in which the teams learned about the day before the competition. The events were Hurt man rescue, arm replacement, speed climb, and dead-end insulator change.

For their first time competing at this level, EWEB's team held their own, finishing in the top third of all competitors.

"I think this will help our program grow at EWEB and generate some more excitement about our local rodeo," said Evan McGill.
