Eugene is fortunate to have one of the cleanest power supplies in the nation. Though we draw on a variety of power resources, Pacific Northwest hydropower is the foundation of Eugene's clean, reliable power supply. Today, approximately 90% of EWEB's energy comes from carbon-free sources — mostly hydropower —and our Climate Change Policy commits us to exceeding 95% by 2030.
As demand grows and the energy landscape changes, maintaining a clean, reliable, and affordable power supply means working both sides of the equation: securing power resources that align with community values and helping customers use electricity as efficiently as possible.
On the supply side, we evaluate available power resources and work to secure the right mix for decades ahead. In 2025, we signed a new contract with the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) that runs through 2044, securing access to between $2.5 and $3 billion worth of reliable, affordable energy. Power from BPA makes up about 80% of EWEB’s energy supply.
On the demand side, we offer programs to help customers reduce energy use, and we are actively studying the cost and potential of conservation, efficiency, and other demand-side resources to understand how much future growth we can offset before turning to new power sources.
EWEB also has a role in helping our community decarbonize through partnerships and programs that enable customers to choose clean electric vehicles and heating over fossil fuels.
