We are excited to announce that the application period for the 2023 Greenpower Grant is now open! The grant, worth up to $50,000,will fund a high-impact project that increases the use of renewable energy sources, the adoption of emerging technologies, clean energy education and/or reduce or offset our community’s carbon footprint.

Grant funding comes from voluntary Greenpower customer subscriptions. Since 2008, thousands of EWEB customers have chosen to support clean, renewable energy by enrolling in EWEB's Greenpower Program. Subscriptions are available in blocks of 100 kWh for $1.50 or 1,000 kWh for $10. Customers may also choose to match 100 percent of their energy use to Greenpower by paying an extra penny per kilowatt-hour of consumption.

In addition to buying renewable energy and funding the Greenpower Grant, Greenpower subscriptions fund EWEB’s solar electric program and K-12 education and events relating to renewable energy and carbon emissions.

The grant is open to tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, schools and academic institutions or government and other public agencies. Eligible projects could include solar installations, battery storage systems, research or studies centering on renewable energy, educational curriculum or workshop development, or carbon emission offsets.

The grant application deadline is 5 p.m. on March 31, 2023. The winner will be announced April 22, 2023.

Funding criteria and grant applications are available at eweb.org/greenpowergrant.

In 2021, Greenpower customers awarded two grants, one to Friends of Trees and the other to Eugene Mission. Friends of Trees used their grant to fund a large-scale tree planting effort with a focus on urban areas and communities historically excluded from the benefits of green space. The project also included educating volunteers in tree stewardship to promote more sustainable neighborhoods. The Eugene Mission installed a solar energy system for a new Learning Center on its campus to assist unhoused families and community members.

Since 2010, Greenpower has awarded nearly $1.3 million.

Current Greenpower customers will vote to determine which local project will be awarded up to $50,000. If you are not currently a Greenpower subscriber, but wish to join so you can help determine the winner of this year's Greenpower Grant recipient, you can do so here.
