Last Call! EWEB expands septic repair grant program to install new septic systems and to small businesses
June 17, 2025 • Adam Spencer, Communications Specialist
The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) is issuing a last call for home and business owners in the Holiday Farm Fire footprint to obtain federal funds to repair or replace a failing septic system or install a new system as part of reconstruction efforts.
EWEB has already distributed more than $2,000,000 to help McKenzie Valley homeowners repair or replace septic systems damaged in the Holiday Farm Fire and to fix and replace septic systems throughout the McKenzie watershed.
Now, EWEB still has nearly $400,000 remaining in its Septic System Repair, Replacement, and Construction Grants program, and time is running out for McKenzie River residents to take advantage of this opportunity.
Approved projects must be completed by September 1, 2026.
Eligible grantees can receive up to $35,000, depending on the type of septic system and household income qualifications.
EWEB and Lane County have expanded grant eligibility to include people who purchased their properties as primary residences after the Holiday Farm Fire occurred (excluding vacation homes), for commercial properties (such as local businesses), long-term rental units (excluding short-term vacation rentals) mixed use properties, multi-family units, new construction, and to cover the costs of permitting and inspecting septic systems.
EWEB encourages those with dysfunctional septic systems or in need of a new septic system, to complete the short application to see if they could qualify.
Improperly maintained septic systems threaten the McKenzie River – the sole source of drinking water for nearly 200,000 people in the Eugene area. Faulty septic systems can contaminate the watershed with unsafe bacteria, provoke harmful algal blooms, and harm fish and wildlife. EWEB has worked with McKenzie Valley residents for over a decade to incentivize responsible septic maintenance.
EWEB is currently accepting applications and has already matched hundreds of people to funds.
To learn more about the Septic System Repair, Replacement, and Construction Grants, interested landowners can go to eweb.org/septic (and choose apply here for the “HFF Lane County Septic Grant” as your Program). You may also call or email Misty Fisher at 541-685-7318, misty.fisher@eweb.org.
