10 Things Every Property Owner Should do When Daylight Savings Ends

October 29, 2019

Daylight savings time ends on Sunday, Nov. 3. Beyond changing your clocks and enjoying the extra hour of sleep, the end of daylight savings is a good time to perform seasonal safety and efficiency maintenance tasks on your home or rental property.

Tips for Property Owners

  1. Replace the batteries and test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  2. Change or clean furnace filters.
  3. Seal drafty windows and doors with spray foam, caulk or weather stripping.
  4. Have the furnace inspected to ensure it runs safely and efficiently.
  5. Inspect trees for hazards. If you see trees interfering with power lines, contact EWEB at 541-685-7148 or complete our online tree trimming request form.
  6. Protect pipes from freezing.
  7. Have the chimney inspected and cleaned.
  8. Drain your water heater to help remove sediment that can prevent the heater from running efficiently. Check your manufacturer's instructions on how to drain your water heater, or contact a professional for help.
  9. Clean gutters to prevent drainage issues and water damage.
  10. Restock your emergency kit to make sure your food, water, flashlights, medicines and other supplies are ready for winter storm season.
